Graduate - Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
Whitehaven is seeking a motivated Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our 2027 Graduate Program.
This role will provide exposure to mechanical engineering within an operational mining environment, supporting fixed plant, mobile equipment, maintenance systems, reliability improvement and site-based engineering projects. You will work alongside experienced mechanical engineers, maintenance teams, supervisors and operational leaders to develop your technical capability and understanding of how mechanical systems support safe, reliable and efficient mining operations.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys practical problem-solving, equipment performance, maintenance reliability and working closely with operational teams.
What You'll Do:
As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will:
• Support mechanical engineering activities across site operations.
• Assist with maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement projects.
• Gain exposure to fixed plant, mobile equipment, materials handling systems, pumps, conveyors, crushers and other mining infrastructure.
• Work with maintenance and operational teams to understand equipment performance, failure trends and production requirements.
• Assist with fault-finding, technical investigations and root cause analysis.
• Support the review and improvement of maintenance systems, engineering processes and technical documentation.
• Participate in site-based projects focused on safety, reliability, efficiency and cost improvement.
• Develop capability in engineering systems, maintenance planning tools, asset management and technical reporting.
• Build effective relationships with supervisors, trades, engineers, operators and support functions.
• Learn how mechanical engineering decisions are applied in a real mining environment.
