About the Role
Whitehaven’s Vacation Student Program provides university students with hands-on exposure to real mining operations, technical projects and site-based work during the university break. The program is designed to give students meaningful industry experience while developing their technical capability, professional confidence and understanding of operational mining environments.
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to practical projects, and gain insight into what a future career with Whitehaven could look like.
We are seeking students currently studying in, or aligned to, the following disciplines:
• Commercial
• Human Resources
• Data Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Mining Engineering
• Geotechnical Engineering
• Process Engineering
• HSE – Health
• Surveying
• HSE – Safety
What You'll Do
• Support site teams with day-to-day operational and technical activities.
• Gain exposure to real mining projects, systems and processes.
• Work alongside experienced supervisors, engineers, environmental professionals, geologists and other site-based teams.
• Build an understanding of safety, production, environmental and operational requirements.
• Develop practical workplace skills in communication, teamwork and problem-solving.
• Contribute to meaningful work that supports site performance and continuous improvement.
What You'll Bring
• Current enrolment in a relevant university degree.
• A genuine interest in the mining industry and regional operations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
• A commitment to safety, integrity and continuous improvement.
• A willingness to work in regional or site-based locations for the duration of the placement.
